"WHAT'S MY TITLE?"
Jay W. Mayes 2002

The alarm rings and I am off to work.
I've put in a full day to receive my perks.
I gotta a big house and two cars in the drive.
But I am never around to enjoy them, because I'm spending my time at work.

CHORUS:
What is my real job on earth?
What really determines my worth?
When the trumpet sounds,
Will I have let my God down,
By following the standards of the world?
God, tell me why I am in a frown.

I am often asked what I do.
I proudly tell them as if I hung the moon.
But deep down inside,
I don't feel much pride.
So I ask my God what is wrong.
What can I do to feel strong?

CHORUS

I don't feel like I really know my kids.
I turn down their requests to do my list.
I see in my wife's eyes,
She no longer looks at me with pride,
Because I'm spending too much time at work.

God, thank You for alerting me.
To realize my work until eternity.
It is not the title I wear.
It is God's spirit that I bear,
Directing me everywhere I need to be.

CHORUS (REPRISE)

Thank You for living in me.
To help me be what you want me to be.
I'll work really hard,
From what is in my heart.
I'll be Your vessel 'till the end.
Because You are doing Your job here on earth.

"LOOK AGAIN"
Jay W. Mayes 2002

There are people who are born into this world.
Different shapes, but from the same mold.
Some bodies are formed with no alarm,
While others are born, lacking what is within the norm.

CHORUS
Who are we to judge what is normal,
What we may see is not what God sees.
God uses everyone for His plan to make the entire body of Him.

There are handicapped people that You can see.
In wheechairs, the deaf and the ones who can't speak.
There are others that you cannot find,
And these people go on acting like they are fine.

CHORUS

There are millions of people in this world,
Who cannot understand why they are hurt.
They follow Christ with all of their lives,
But there is no joy in their mind.
Mental illness is a mystery to all involved.
An illness that hopefully will be solved.
Patients are labeled as retarded and crazy,
But don't forget how Jesus used the handicapped for His Glory.

CHORUS REPRISE:
Who are we to be scared of those who are hindered?
Look again and see what is God is teaching through them.
For what may seem to be broken,
Reminds us all we are helpless without Him.

"GOT FRUIT?"
(Gal.5: 22-23)
Jay W. Mayes 2002

Do we really know what our children need?
We shouldn't give them everything they please.
Which request should we grant them?
God is wise; let us turn to Him.
The memories of September 11th will always be blue.
But it is in this act, God taught us what to do.

He brought us" invincible parents" to our knees,
To remind us of what our children need.
We need a parent just like our children do,
To give us someone we can look up to.

When our children look around,
They see that our country is building up from the ground.
Through acts of love and kindness,
Gently, our country showed its greatness.

Satan, through the use of terrorists, tried to pull us a part.
Instead, it gave us the realization of what matters to our children's heart.
They need to see examples of the fruits of the spirit and not just words on the page.
This will surely guard them through life as they come of age.
It is good for them to see the public exemplify, patience and self-control,
But they also need to see us as parents model our roles.
Poisons of divorce are across the land,
But our children need to see their parents walking hand in hand.
For when they see this symbol of faithfulness that is shown,
They will be able to have a joyful strong family on their own.

"STOP, DROP AND LISTEN"
Jay W. Mayes 2002

Fast food, microwaves, express lanes, drive-thru, express mail,
email, instant mixes, frozen dinners, faster cars, 24/7 markets,
deadlines, new products, on-line shopping, supersonic jets,
express trains, pay-at-the- pump, ATM machines---Where does it all end?!!

O God, why are we all in such a hurry?
No wonder we are all in such a worry.
The world keeps spinning so fast.
I wonder when it is going to fall off its axis!

CHORUS:
God teach us to slow down.
If not, we are sure to fall to the ground.
The world is sure going to push us to keep going,
However, we need to stop and smell the roses that are growing.

It is the weekend that we always look for,
Come Friday at five, you better stay away from the door!
It is a shame we plan our lives only on those two sacred days,
And it is a miracle if we have anytime to stop and give You praise.

CHORUS

Perhaps when we find some quiet times during the week,
We can get on our knees and sit at Your feet.
We can again be children who look to You.
Then, during that quiet time, we can learn from You what You would have us do.

"LET GOD DRIVE"
Jay W. Mayes 2002

God, why do I worry about every little thing?
Can't I realize that it will not change the scene.
Yes, I pray for You to take care of my worries,
But why don't I feel the peace when I talk to You on my knees?

CHORUS:

God, I know that You are in control of the wheel.
Please help me stay in the back seat and not squeal.
I want to take hold,
But You tell me You're in control.
Please help me to do what I am told.

You have always protected me in the past,
But yet I still worry about what lies in my path.
Your Word is clear, that You even take care of the birds.
So, why do I keep on worrying?

CHORUS

Your Word is also clear that tomorrow is in Your hands,
For each day holds troubles that You can stand.
Why should I think about what can happen and what can't happen,
When You hold the future's plan?

CHORUS

There is no doubt that Satan is going to lose in the end.
So the war with him is futile.
However, I know the ride will be rough,
Because You want me to be tough,
And trust Your in control of the wheel.

CHORUS

... but I know You're in control
and I will cling to Your stronghold.

"HELL IS NOT A DIRTY WORD"
Jay W. Mayes 2002

Churches and preachers always like to talk about heaven and grace.
In this we can become all too complacent, knowing that we are safe.
Heaven is good to talk about, but we need to talk more about Hell.
A guaranteed place of weeping and gnashing of teeth, down in the far depth of a cell.

It would be nice to know what is our friends and family's fate.
Then we can tell them about heaven and hell before it is too late.
Churches in the past have grown,
Maybe because preachers back then talked about fire and brimstone.

The end is near, get the news out.
If you were in a burning office building, would you tell them of the escape route?
Are you going to escape by yourself and not tell anyone?
You would think to yourself that you would not.
But are we telling others the choice of heaven and hell, that would help them out a lot?

If you haven't, good chance your friend or loved one is still alive,
Then you can tell them about the prize.
But Hell is not a dirty word and we need to tell them about Hell, the other place,
Where no one will get you out, because in Hell there is no grace.

By the way, because of Revelation,
You can tell them who wins in the end,
So what is it going to be,
God's winning team or Satan's team?

"ONLY EYES FOR YOU"
Jay W. Mayes 2002
(Dedicated to the one
I love to look at, my wife
Lisa)

Life is filled with mystery and wonder-
Wondering where my future wife may be.
Only God knows who she is, O where is my princess?
Why does God have to take me through the mystery of dating?

So I set on my way with my checklist in hand
Wondering where my dating prospect might land
Dates continue on 'til all of money is gone;
And just when I stop searching, God gives me her hand

CHORUS:
May I only have eyes for you,
With the help of my dear Lord I'll be true.
I want to stay committed to you -
Not only with my words, but my eyes to be forever committed to you.

I take her hand wondering if God wants me to be with her
I spend much time with her, grading her checklist on a curve
Our doubts fade, then we become engaged, then walk down the aisle hand in hand.
We marry and we become one

There is an evil one, who wants us to become undone.
He wants me to take my eyes off my lovely bride,
And turn away from the Creator and listen to Satan's lies:
Wanting to take another one by my side.

CHORUS (2X)

... may my eyes be forever committed to you.

"DON'T EXPECT PRAISE"
Jay W. Mayes 2002

Why do we often say something to people when they do something wrong?
Wouldn't it be easier to tell them something to make them strong?
Why can't men express their feelings to someone,
But instead they treat them like they are dumb?

CHORUS:

God gave us the golden rule to use.
Why is it the standard that we do not choose?
O God, keep us from worshipping ourselves,
But help us love our neighbor as ourselves.

Why do most bosses point out faults and hardly ever give praise,
When our Father in heaven would use grace?
However, when bosses give orders,
It should be done without expecting a reward.
Following Christ is our duty,
And allowing Him to work through us revealing His beauty.

CHORUS

There are many times we regret not telling someone they are loved.
It is usually when God has taken them above.
We are successful in praising someone,
But is most often done in an eulogy, when it is done.

CHORUS

Life is fleeting as we have been told,
And helps us to encourage everyone before they are old.
We need to make an effort to change our ways,
Before our friends and family have their last day.

CHORUS

"A FEW MORE DAYS"
Jay W. Mayes 2002

CHORUS:
O God I want to go home.
Take my hand, never more to roam.
I am tired and weak.
There is nothing that I seek,
But to be in Your arms for eternity.

The doctors have done all that they could do
I am convinced that in a matter of time, I will be with You.
I am not afraid to walk through the valley of death;
Because You promised you will be with me on earth up to my last breath.

CHORUS

Death is not the end, it is only the beginning of a new life.
I look forward to my new body with no frailty.
And the crown I will wear for eternity.
I will save a place for the rest of my family.
Thank You God for preparing a place for me,
So I can live with You for eternity.
O death I feel no sting,
Because God, You are my king.

CHORUS

"SPEAK UP!"
Jay W. Mayes 2002

The world often focuses on people who are successful,
Usually based on whether their pockets are full.
Many of these people put on the facade that they are happy,
But they end up like Solomon and all of his vanity.

The church puts on social pressure as well,
For if we do not succeed as a christian, we are going to Hell.
Therefore, we put a smile on our face and say that we are fine,
But we really have something to hide.

CHORUS:
God, why don't we listen;
And confess our transgression?
For you told us to bear one another's burdens,
which would make Satan's force lessen.

It is amazing that when we do confess our weaknesses,
We find others who have the same struggles.
We then form a bond, which makes us strong,
And God's will is fulfilled.

CHORUS

"GO FOR THE MIDDLE"
Jay W. Mayes 2003

I've been called an extremist,
Even prodded to complete my to to-do list.
I guess you can call me an all or nothing,
My wife would say without blushing.

Chorus:
God, help me to jump in the middle,
And be fit as a fiddle.
It is obvious through Your word,
that I need to balance to keep from being absurd.

As I live through life,
I realize God has given us everything we need,
But as his children, we are filled with greed.
We want more money, food, drink, and sex,
But we quickly say what is next?

CHORUS

God, teach me to be content in all situation,
Help me to find the right combination.
Not too much and not too little,
But strive for the middle.

CHORUS

"Hear It In His Voice" 2003

I am so confused,
Dealing with the pressures of this world.
Not sure of what God wants me to do.

CHORUS:
Here it in His voice.
The solution to our choice.
Of the way He wants us to live.

I reached out and He gave me His word.
"He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out.
And His sheep follow Him because they know His voice."

CHORUS

Lord God, help me to find quiet times,
So I can just sit and listen to Your voice.

CHORUS
